Question...would a person trying to get back in for the third time be held out much longer? Just curious on time frames for a 2nd and 3rd Dfing.
I can only speak about my own situation. The first time I was very anxious to get back in. I had a wife and two small children. It didn't take long. I did was I was told to do
The second time I was living away from my wife and kids. I had moved to find a job and a place to live for my family. The elders in my home congregation disfellowshipped me while I was away, for past transgressions. I had to deal with them over the phone and through the congregation I was attending in California. That took a long time. Eventually, I trimmed my sideburns and was reinstated
The third time, I said fuck it and never looked back. It was one of the best decisions of my life
Since then, some old "friends" have asked me to "repent" and "come back". I get the impression from them that it wouldn't be that difficult or take very long. I'd just have to play the game
Keep in mind, that last time was in 1991. I've been told by these "friends" that things have changed and reinstatement isn't as hard as it used to be

I was DFed 3 times. All were for legitimate reasons, as far as Borg rules were concerned. Their rules, my transgressions, no complaint
The second time I was attempting reinstatement, the elders told me I had to trim my sideburns before they'd let me back in. Attend every meeting. Study. Underline the answers in your Watchtower. Show humility. Jump through all the hoops.
But before we'll allow you back in, you have to trim your sideburns. They can't grow below the middle of your ear. I thought that was chickenshit
I trimmed them. That was chickenshit too

I used to wonder, how people in "the truth" could do and say hurtful things. How could certain people be appointed elders? They were just kiss-asses or yes men. How could so many be judgemental and self-righteous. Why would friends dump me if it meant they would make elder faster? Is position that important?
Now knowing this is all a crazy cult has given me perspective. There isn't any kind of special calling or organization. It is made up of people, most of whom have serious personal or psychological issues. This Org has found the right formula to lure them in. From reading here, I've been able to see how cults use specialness in the form of labels and hierarchy to manipulate and control.
Now, while I am stuck going to meetings, I have a new way of seeing my brothers and sisters. They don't know what's being done to them and they let it drive them to worry about who is a servant and who isn't and who went out in service last Saturday and whose Watchtower is underlined. Nonsense that even a little light from the outside world could dispell and reveal for all its craziness and pettiness.
I agree with everything but your last paragraph. You aren't stuck unless you chose to be. Jehovah's Witnesses are not your brothers and sisters
